Is teaching and learning about the Holocaust relevant for human rights education?

Description

Observes that the Holocaust can play three roles in relation to human rights education: education about human rights, for human right or within the framework of human rights. Risks exist, such as moving towards simplistic moralising before students have had sufficient time with the material to acquire foundational knowledge and to develop historical understanding. The author believes we can be attentive to history and memory without setting them at odds, but notes the importance of maintaining a clear distinction between commemorative and educational activities.
