Description

Heinz Brandt was born into a German Jewish family in the Prussian city of Posen (today's Poznan, Poland). He became a member of the Communist party of Germany and was imprisoned from 1934 -1945, and escaped to West Germany in 1958. In 1961 he was kidnapped by the East German state security and sentenced to 13 years in prison, but in 1964 he was released to the west after an interrnational campaign, and continued to work for a better society.
