Yizkor books continue a long history of written books derived from the traditional commandment to remember "Zahor". Many survivors lived and worked in Israel after the war. They felt it was their solemn responsibility to gather materials, to write, to document, and to remember what happened during the Holocaust.
They also wanted to document and describe Eastern European Jewish life that vanished, and the historical data on ghetto and concentration camp life and death
