Compared with the contentious postsocialist debates over the Holocaust that have occurred in the other countries of Eastern Europe, the wartime history of Albania's 156 Jews has generated little public attention. The Holocaust symbolizes Albanian's sense of humanity, which drove the nation to rescue Jews from being deported by occupation forces to extermination camps. This chapter analyzes the work and research of Albanian elites who have written the country's narrative since the collapse of communism
