Bertilotti retraces the manner in which 'the myth of the good Italian' has referred to rescue in Italian society, and ties these references in with domestic and foreign policy issues. Since Italy as a nation is supposed to have safeguarded and helped Jews, there was little mention of rescuers, and less of rescue as a process
