An account of the wartime activities of Rudolf Kasztner, the head of the Budapest-based Relief and Rescue Committee. It focuses on his dealings with various members of the SS, and of the 'bargain' that resulted in the eventual rescue of 1684 Jews. This deal became the subject of a major controversy after the war. It culminated in a libel suit that led to the downfall of the Israeli govenment and to his murder
