Holocaust education in recent decades places increasing value on witnessing and the use of survivors or taped testimonies as the most emotionally moving and 'authentic' of primary sources. It is hoped eyewitnesses force students to confront the fact that this horrible event took place and to be on guard that it can never happen anywhere again
