Description

This article discuses in depth the thinking and teachings of Rev. Eliyahu Bloch who believed that life permeated with Torah and Musar (moralistic conduct) and Da'at (wisdom), could help one could resist the impact of growing external difficulties.
He stayed on when the Germans invaded as he felt that it was better to surrender the body to the Germans than the soul to the Russians. Rabbi Bloch remained devout throughtout his internment in a labour camp, until his murder in a group pit in the forest. He stated that Tefilla (prayer), Teshuvah (good deeds) and Tsedakah (charity) had to be carried out to remove the the evil decree.
He was interested in the blending of existential and objective dimensions to goodness.
While Abram Yitshak focused on the soul's surrender to God, Eliyahu Meir focused on the completion of the soul as it came to God.
