Description

Most Bulgarian Jews were saved during the Holocaust. In 1940 very strong anti-Jewish legislation was accepted by the Bulgarian parliament, and in 1943 many Jews were rounded up for deportation. However after a meeting the deportation was "postponed". Although they were treated very harshly, they were saved and survived the war. Since 1948, 42,000 are kown to have emigrated to Israel.
