Description

The Federal Republic acknowledged the reality of German guilt and accepted a measure of responsibility for making some sort of restitution. The German Democratic Republic however draped itself in the mantle of antifascism claiming that the establishment of a socialist state created an entirely new order untainted by complicity in Nazi atrocities.
