Frustrated by his plan to enlist Zionism to promote Italian interests in the Mediterranean and confronting English and French censure over the invasion of Ethiopia,Mussolini turned to Germany and his increasing dependancy on Germany brought with it a change in the Italian government's policy toward the Jews.Even though four fifths of the Italian Jews survived, the 7,682 who were killed under a totalitarian system which for political expediendy betrayed and sacrificed its own citizens.
