Begins with events in the dying hours of 30th April, for Berlin, as Mikhail Petr Minnin recounts how he and his four comrades stormed the Reichstag and raised the Red flag, high above it. As Stalin had demanded it, by 1st May, Labour Day, the Red flag was flying over the Reichstag. Draws on newsreels and selected archival footage to reconstruct the fierce and bloody fighting in the Berlin streets. Includes graphic images of the destruction of Berlin and its civilians, and the conditions of survivors. Aerial maps show the city and locate the Soviet advance within it. The story draws also on personal narratives of participants of the war, experiences of civilians caught up in it
