Description

Solomon's Ford has a unique place in Victorian history. Melbourne, Geelong and Williamstown were developed more or less contemporaneously from the sea. Geographically they were separate settlements. Economically they were interdependant and the need for road access across the Yarra and Maribyrnong Rivers was soon felt. The needed land connection was soon created. Because the land on the south side was owned by Solomon the crossing passed into history as Solomon's Ford.
