In 1944 Fey von Hassell was arrested because her father who had been executed in the aftermath of the July Plot. Fey who had married an Italian and was living in Italy was seized as a 'special prisoner' of the SS. Her sons were also seized and she had no idea where they were taken. Fey was held in a number of concentration camps including Dachau and Buchenwald. She gives a vivid and moving account of her imprisonment and subsequent quest to find her children in the chaos after the fall of Hitler's Reich.
