European and North American scholars in a wide range of social sciences and humanities gathered in Boston in May 2001 in response to the Irving v. Penguin/Lipstadt trial when one writer called another a Holocaust denier and became a debate over the historical record. They reflect on how evidence in such cases is presented, constructed and reconstructed and how historical truths are reconstructed and/or refuted over time
