Describes the very private thoughts, specters and hopes of a Holocaust survivor.The title character, Bartfuss, dwells in a coastal town in Israel and makes a dubious living as a trader. He has great difficulty in comprehending the wartimer years and in breaking out of their shadows and touching the souls of other people.
