Still a teenager when war engulfed her Polish homeland, Opdyke labored courageously and with little support to save as many Jews as possible from the Holocaust. She represents a minority within a majority, in that a rather large proportion of Poland's predominantly Catholic population did little to rescue their Jewish neighbours.
