Singing for survival: Songs of the Lodz ghetto 1940-45

Employs ethnomusicological techniques to examine and analyse the music of the Lodz ghetto. The songs give us a significant sampling of the melodies and tunes of work, home, theatre and elsewhere amidst the horror of the Shoah. While centralizing on the specific Lodz music, this title also encourages an overall comparative view, The sources include archival material and interviews with survivors.
